New Blog

Hey guys!

So my sister started a blog and so far I'm the only one following. But it's pretty cool, she posts about different crafts that look like things from Anthropology or Urban Outfitters, etc. It's basically all crafts, but it's cool even though I don't have time to craft!

Just thought I'd let you know about it!

Wish List #4

My favorite part of Christmas is my family's extensive Christmas village. It decorates the whole downstairs of my childhood home, and is simply whimsical. We try to find pieces that relate to our family. Lots of musicians, a Starbucks cart, etc.

But my family's favorite holiday (at least for my Dad and me) is Halloween.
So 2 years ago we start a spooky Halloween village.

I think these 2 pieces would be a perfect addition.

Don't couples usually match?

So as we all know, Tierney and I are dating... wait. No we're not.

She and I always happen to wear the same colors or style clothes when we go out. For example, we went to trivia three weeks in a row wearing the same color t - shirts. A teal, a bright blue and black if my memory serves me. We never wear the exact same outfit, we just look similar. Sort of like a couple at prom who have a matching dress and tie. Yet quite different actually... Anywho, T and I went to get drinks with my dad, sister and Roy the other day and again, we happened to be wearing white shirts, jeans and a similar animal print shoe. I thought this was getting scary and had to be acknowledged so I forced my sister to take a photo of us....

See, not exactly the same, but quite similar nonetheless. Strange...

Suiting Up

So this post is really 2 month late. When I had to took my exam in June, a strong emphasis was put on attire. The Court is extremely conservative, and the expectation is that male/female you'll wear a black/navy suit. So I went out with my next to no money to buy a suit. Evidently easier said than done. I went to the closest Prime Outlets, struck out. Went to Macy's and it's ilk, strike two. At this point I had spent too much valuable study time on my outfit with no success. I was totally over it. I had been venting in class, and another women similarly shaped to myself suggested a brand they carry at Nordstrom. To which I heard $$$. She could see the shock on my face, and readily admitted that it was expensive but worth it. So I told my Mom and she encouraged me to at least give it a try. So I picked it out, went into the dressing room, and before I even looked in the mirror, I knew it fit. Finally. But it was expensive, so I paced around the store for about 45 minutes on the phone with my Mom hyperventilating about it until she convinced me it was a worthy investment. So now I have a suit, and a love/hate relationship with it. I know it's a versatile piece of clothing, but it's BORING. I would have rather bought a purse, or some cute shoes.

I look like I'm running for office, but you'd buy wine from me, right?

The things that make my suit, my cute top from Ann Taylor, and Nike Air flats.

Hear is the fruit of my labors, my pin!

Red Ain't Right

I decided I'd like to try out being a redhead. I love redheads, Sean especially loves redheads, so why not? I am a total hair schizophrenic and seasonally shift from blonde to brown to whatever in between.

I dyed my hair a really coppery blonde once and it looked crazy on me. Probably because I didn't lighten my eyebrows at all, but still, I looked NUTS. As seen on an earlier post, I also went plum colored once, kind of cool but totally unnatural.

So this time I was determined to find something between Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever. I really just wanted a True Red. Like, a normal redhead red. Not coppery orange and not plum purple. Just red thanks.

So settled on "Medium Auburn". Ala this:

I waffled in the aisle, because I know, after all of my hair dying expereince that colors run dark. A box of light brown will leave you with black hair. It's a fact.

I didn't want to go too light and end up with crazy copper again, but I didn't want to go too dark and be all plum loco. So I chose this one, thinking that my already very highlighted hair would balance out whatever too dark tendencies were in the dye.

And, out of left field, I ended up with this mess:

Uh yeah, that's BROWN. BROWN TOWN.

In the light it has a definite red tint. A nice red tint, but not red. This picture doesn't do justice to how dark it really is. It's like black cherry. I look like a Wiccan or something. Sean thought I was trying to be a vampire.

So I've gone out and gotten a copper shade, and in the near future I will try to undo this goth meets ginger nonsense. What a big suckity suck.

Fake Graduation

So I officially became a graduate student this past weekend, but I didn't actually graduate from Stony Brook so they wouldn't give me the cap and gown sitch. So, since I didn't spend the $70 on the cap and gown I got a nice dress instead. I didn't take any photos of just me, but this is one of me and my roommates...

The dress is from JC Penny's (all of their sun dresses are 50% off right now by the way!) and the shoes are from target a while ago. I also had just moved all of my stuff out of my place so I had put my hair up and just took it down right before I took these photos... whoops.

Graduation and beyond...

So my week continued... and I have pictures of my outfits from every night but one, so I'm pretty proud of myself.

Friday night:

Commencement Ball

It was a formal, but I didn't go all out prom dresses like many of my classmates, cause you know me - not very big on the huge fancy dresses!! But it was an AWESOME night. So much fun hanging with all of my friends, and getting one last ridiculous evening before that scary graduation thing.

Dress from Express (yay coupons making things afordable), shoes from payless - they are baller and I'm completely obsessed with them!!! Again the drink in hand is just a bonus!

Saturday Night:

Family Dinner dance. Except none of our families came. My roommates and I pretended to be each others family. And we hung out with Avery's parents. This is the night where I don't have a picture of my outfit. But it was a dress you have all seen before, so nothing special.

Then I did this crazy thing called graduate. Supersuper weird. I am currently sitting in my room contemplating what exactly it means, and not being able to wrap my mind around it. I want to call all of you to talk and such, but don't have the time before bed. So I will call you later this week and explain my complete confusion about this whole life thing that seems to be going on around me. But here is one more picture just to make up for it!

I miss you all, and I hope you enjoyed the updates!!

P.S. Yes, I really was that obnoxiously colorful for graduation!!!

Two nights of debauchery

So here we go....

Night 1:
We went to two bars that were across the street from eachother. It was absurd, and we all got super shwasted, cause no driving was involved. However, we looked adorable.

The shirt is from Rue21 (cost $3), the belt is the same one from Wet Seal (I like it a lot), jeans from charlotte Russe, and I wore sneakers, cause that is how much I cared about looking pretty!!

Night 2:
We went to Mohegan Sun. Which in theory sounds awesome, and it was. Except that there were no early buses back, so we were stuck there until 2:30 and didn't get home until 4:30. I'm sitll exhausted. But again, I looked super cute.

The shirt is from Kohl's - the front is cute and scrunched, but you can't tell in the picture. (The bright pink bra is just a bonus). Same jeans from Charlotte Russe, and boots from Target!

These are the boots I wore, just to give you an idea!

More to follow <3

To appease...

This is my first post ever on our blog due to my lack of a camera. There will be more to follow after this weekend, because I will have many fancy occasions with worthy outfits.

This is the outfit I wore to my Theater Program's Banquet. It was a pretty casual thing, we ran it ourselves, but it was tons of fun!

The dress is from Target a few years ago; the belt is from Wet Seal, and the flipflops I stole from my roommate.

My favorite part is the wine glass ;-)

Pretty basic, but more to follow!

I miss you all like crazyy

Mother in Resident.

Here on the Closet Connection, June is our resident Mommy. When we were younger and we used to fantasize about our adult lives, she wasn't the one we expected to settle down first. Ashley was. Then she found Sean, without a doubt the other half to her whole. Then came Aiden. June would have been the first to tell you she didn't really like babies. Of course the truth is she didn't really like OTHER peoples babies. Then her son was born, and she became this whole other person, a Mom. A fantastic one at that. He is her everything now. She feeds him, bathes him, makes sure his life is generally a blast. Like a typical 2 year old boy, he doesn't always appreciate it like he should. That's what she has girlfriends for. Women who stand in awe of her, and the mother she's become. Who see her as an inspiration for the mothers they someday hope to be.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, JUNE!

Ought to Thank Your Mama...

My Mother is my #1 shopping companion, and not just because when we shop together I pay a lot less. I've always been a big girl, and it's always been my Mother's mantra that I should were clothes that are flattering. I trust her opinion above all others. I try to find things that emphasis my waist, and minimize my ASSets. She will not hesitate to say, "Makes your butt look big." So just prior to my move I was trying to get a lot of professional pieces I could wear to school. I was Target with June, my number 2 shopping companion and there was a dress for sale for $9 dollars. I tried it on, determined it was cute and bought. I haven't worn it since. Upon reflection, and an unintentional channeling of my mother, I found myself thinking, 'Makes my butt look big.' As well as a concern that the print made me look like the entire amazonian rain forest. Today I decided to conquer my fear (and deal with my lack of clean laundry + rising temperatures).I'm back to my original verdict of cute. Especially since I got quite a few compliments on it.

Dilemma #2
The Blazer
I have a khaki linen Ann Taylor blazer, that I never know what to wear with. So I tried it with the dress today, and I'm not sure how I felt about it. Let me know what you guys think, and if you have other suggestions of how I should wear it.Unbuttoned

Buttoned, which in this picture looks weird. I think, maybe, because I was raising my arm to take the picture.

By the by, my Mom is totally justified in her comments.
'Cause, her 'Baby's got back'.

I'm a Stylish Teacher :)

So this is an outfit I wore on Monday. It's not dazzling, but I was going through my closet and I found these blue pants that I haven't worn in a long time. They're nothing to exciting, but they're kinda shinny and they still fit me from when I got them 4 years ago. Plus, I've been getting a lot of compliments on my outfits lately. One woman always comes up to me, "Oh Ashley, You always look so nice! Where do you shop?" So now that I'm considered the stylish one at work, the pressure is on for me to keep up this title.

Pants: Old Navy

Shirt: H&M

Cardigan: Marshalls

Shoes: Target

Circa 2005

I ust found these on Sean's camera and it felt like finding a ten dollar bill in my pocket. What was I thinking? I don't know, but I did meet Sean around this time so I can't have been all crazy, despite the photographic evidence.

P.S. I'd like to say R.I.P. to these jeans, my most favorite ever, who died a grisly death by excessive tearing.

New School, New Outfit!

So this is an outfit I wore during my first week at Pine Bush Middle School, in Bullville. It's the complete opposite of Newburgh. The school is out in the middle of no where, and instead of dealing with horny high schoolers, I'm dealing with pubescent seventh graders. I'm not sure which I like better.

Anywho, on to the outfit... The skirt is actually a hand-me-down from my mom. I wore it once for a rowing banquet in the Spring, and I really liked it. She gave it to me this past summer when she was cleaning her closet. It's weird, I never thought I'd be wearing the same clothes as my mom. Although you can't tell in the picture, it's got two high slits going up the side. The white shirt is from Target. I got it on clearance over the summer. The black cardigan is Mrs. Campo's. She let me borrow it in high school for the Mozart Symphony and I forgot to give it back to her. Either she doesn't realize I still have it, or she's come to terms with the fact that she's never getting it back.

I think this outfit makes me look like a real teacher. And yes, I'm totally aware that two of these articles of clothing are from my mothers. Either they're very trendy, or I dress like an old woman now...

Spring break!

So while this should really go on snugglebunny, I have no way to post there so we are going to diverge from our usual closet connection and talk about June's son. So as most of you know, Tierney and I were home on spring break last week and we hung out with June, Sean, Aiden, Cathy, etc. at Rosendale. I had a great time, maybe more fun than Aiden! So, I didn't know where else to post this and I didn't want facebook to attack this video so I thought this would be better. Also, I have been a failure at adding photos to here recently. When I get a chance I'll make my roommate take a photo of my new earring so you guys can check that out! And when I'm not so stressed and may have time to dry my hair after a shower, I'll look cute for a day and let you all see a spring outfit that I have.

Easter

Dress: Target, on crazy clearance
Shoes: thrifted
Cardigan: Online
Necklace: gift from my mom, from Newport R.I.

I was so excited that it was warm enough to wear this. I originally had brown tights and boots because usually it's practically snowing on Easter. I had already gotten a little tan from the previous few days of crazy warm temperatures so I braved sandals and bare legs, and it was worth it.

Spring Fashion Week Day 4

Sorry I didn't post yesterday! I overslept, and my outfit ended up being a mish mash of stuff alright up. So today I only have one outfit is not 'spring' like weather here in San Jose(at least not by west coast standards!) So It was about warmth, more then fun spring fashion today.
Orange sweater: Banana Republic
Black Sweater: Merona at Target
Pants: Ann Taylor

and the Pièce de résistance...

Cameo: A boutique in Rome, Italy

One of my most favorite necklaces.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Today, I already had my spring outfit planned, I knew exactly what I was going to wear, and I was happy with it. I AGONIZED over my professional look, and honestly left not 100% satisfied with it. So any feedback would be most appreciated.

This was my "spring" choice. It absolutely could have been my professional look, except that the shirt is see through, and I don't yet have a camisole that fits well under it.
Top-J crew
Skirt- Ann Taylor?
Shoes- Nine West

This is a variation on my originally planned professional outfit. I have 2 of the same tank, sweater set. I wanted to wear, a turquoise tank, with a black and white geometric print. I think it would have looked professional enough. However, the tank turned out to have a stain. So I tried
The purple set, which I liked, but thought was too casual.
This was what I ended up wearing. I'm worried that the whole thing is too wide. Unfortunately, tucked in it was not flattering. I LOVE the top, and the jewelery, I just which I had a narrower skirt to pair it with. Maybe I should have worn pants?
Here's today make-up's results, and I think this is my new facebook photo.

Spring Fashion Day 2

Here is my 'springy outfit'
Shirt+coat-J Crew
Shorts-Ann Taylor
Sneaks- Airwalks from Payless
Jewelry- gifts

In my professional attire for school today, I was channeling my BFF June's mother, Cathy.
She is by far the best dressed professional I know.
Plus the necklace and earings were gifts from them.

Fashion Week, Day 2

It's a rose, it's a plane, it's: my skirt!

I didn't actually wear this today, I wore it Sunday, but it still counts! Also, after taking this photo I had to photoshop my tights because our mirror is so dusty they came out looking gray. It was gross.

This is the pattern on the skirt:

Purple roses and airplanes! I love it and I feel the Ms. Frizzle (the teacher from the Magic School Bus) when I wear it.

Purple cardigan: a million years old
Skirt: GoJane.com, they have a lot of trashy club clothes and one or two really cute things.
Tights: Target
Shoes: Target, also a million years old

Spring Fashion Week Day 1

For those of you joining us for spring fashion week from the lovely Emeryjo's blog. Welcome. This is a style blog myself and my closest friends use to get/give advice since we are so far apart from one another.

So this week in edition to being fashion is also the first week of school. So I'm going to post 2 looks. My fun, 'yay it's spring!' look, and my professional 'I'm a Sommelier, buy lots of wine from me' look.
This is my fun for spring look.
Dress: Banana Republic,
Slouchy boots(which you can't really see):Urban Outfitters.
Jewelry: gifts.
This outfit substituting hot pink leggings, and a side ponytail, was what I wore to 80's night at a local club!

This is my professional attire for school.
Dress: Ann Taylor
Shoes:Nine West

Also as those who know me are aware, I'm not a makeup person. However since relocating to the left coast, I've been trying to wear it everyday. So I hope that they appreciate that in these photos, I am wearing liquid eyeliner WHICH I applied while on the phone with Tierney!

Also one of these photos from this week is going to become my new facebook photo. Votes as to which one?

If you're interested in reading my regular everyday blog it is here.
